Comparison
You can buy hashpower from ShiftHash, buy a fixed contract from a traditional cloud miner, or buy hardware and run it yourself. This page compares them side by side — with generic categories and ShiftHash's own real figures, not invented numbers about anyone else.
You buy a hashrate plan. An engine scores 12 proof-of-work coins every 15 minutes and aims your hashpower at the best estimated net yield, switching only on a 5%+ advantage. Payout in BTC or USDT. No hardware, no watching charts.
You buy a fixed-term contract, usually tied to one coin or one algorithm. The hashpower mines that coin for the whole term, whatever happens to its profitability. You wait out the term.
You buy ASICs or GPUs, pay for electricity, cooling and maintenance, and keep whatever they mine. Full control — and full responsibility for everything that breaks, overheats or goes out of date.
Side by side
ShiftHash figures are real product figures. The other two columns describe the categories in general — your mileage with any specific provider or rig will vary.
| ShiftHash Smart-Switch | Traditional cloud mining | Own hardware | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you buy | Hashrate plan ($20–$1,000/month, 1–12 month terms) | Fixed-term contract, usually one coin/algorithm | Physical rigs (ASIC/GPU) + hosting or home setup |
| Hardware needed | None — mining runs remotely | None — mining runs remotely | You buy, house and maintain it |
| Coins mined | 12 proof-of-work coins, re-aimed by the engine | Usually 1 coin per contract | Whatever your hardware can mine |
| Yield optimisation | Automatic — scored every 15 min on net USD/watt/day | None — fixed allocation for the term | Manual — you watch and switch (or don't) |
| Switching | Auto, on ≥5% advantage; 1–60 switches/day by tier; lock available | Generally not possible mid-contract | Manual, whenever you choose |
| Who watches the market | The engine, around the clock | Nobody — the contract is set | You |
| Payout asset | BTC or USDT, whichever coin was mined | Usually the mined coin | The mined coin (you convert it yourself) |
| Minimum entry | $20 for a 1-month plan | Varies by provider, often higher | Cost of a rig — typically hundreds to thousands |
| Upfront cost | Term total only (e.g. $20 for 1 month) | Contract price up front | Hardware + setup + first electricity bill |
| Ongoing effort | Near zero — check the app when you like | Near zero — wait out the term | High — power, heat, noise, updates, repairs |
| Electricity | Included in the plan price | Included in the contract price | You pay it, every month |
| Transparency | Every evaluation shown — pick, reason, per-coin yields, switches left | Varies — often just a balance figure | Full — you see your own machines |
| Exit / resale | Contract ends at term end; nothing to sell | Contract ends at term end; nothing to sell | Sell used hardware (value falls fast) |
| Extra earning | Staking 18–80% APY, daily check-in, referrals | Usually none | None — only what the rigs mine |
| Biggest risk | Estimates can be wrong; yields can fall to zero | Locked into a coin that stops paying | Hardware obsolescence + power costs |
Reading the table honestly
You want exposure to mining yields without buying hardware, watching charts, or betting a year on a single coin. You are comfortable with estimates, you understand returns are not guaranteed, and you like seeing every decision the engine makes. Start at $20 and scale only if the experience earns your trust.
A fixed contract can suit someone who firmly believes in one coin and wants zero decisions for the whole term. Own hardware can suit a hobbyist who enjoys running machines, has cheap electricity, and accepts that rigs lose value fast. Neither is wrong — they are different trade-offs, and this page exists so you can make the trade-off with your eyes open.
Estimates, never guaranteed profit. ShiftHash figures — ROI 180–300%, staking APY 18–80%, daily profit estimates — are based on live network conditions at the time they are shown. Actual results depend on difficulty, prices, contract terms and uptime, and can be lower, delayed, or zero. The same is true of any mining: no provider and no rig can guarantee a return. Read the Risk Disclosure before you spend anything on mining, anywhere.
